Steakhouse Burger Sloppy Joes
If you love the bold flavors of a steakhouse burger but want a quick weeknight meal, these Steakhouse Burger Sloppy Joes hit the spot. Juicy ground beef, sautéed mushrooms, onions, and a rich savory sauce come together for a satisfying twist on the classic sloppy joe.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 oz mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1 cup white onion, coarsely chopped (from 1 small onion)
- 1 teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chicken broth (from a 32-oz carton)
- 2 tablespoons steak sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
Directions
Step 1: Cook the Mushrooms and Onions
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Add mushrooms and onions, and cook for 5–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and slightly browned.
Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet.
Sprinkle with Montreal steak seasoning and cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until browned and cooked through—about 6–8 minutes.
Drain excess grease if needed.
Step 3: Build the Sauce
Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir well to coat.
Cook for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
Slowly stir in the chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the skillet to loosen any browned bits.
Add steak sauce and Dijon mustard, stirring to combine.
Reduce heat and simmer for 5–7 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and clings to the meat.
Step 4: Serve
Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns or serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or even baked potatoes.
For an extra steakhouse feel, top with a slice of cheddar or provolone cheese.
