Ingredients
For the Biscuits:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup milk
For the Sausage Gravy:
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Make the Biscuits:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk until just combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into rounds or squares.
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden.
- Prepare the Sausage Gravy:
- In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Assemble the Pie:
- In a pie dish, layer half of the baked biscuits on the bottom.
- Pour half of the sausage gravy over the biscuits.
- Add the remaining biscuits and top with the rest of the gravy.
- Bake:
- Return to the oven for about 15-20 minutes until heated through.
