Ingredients

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup milk

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the Biscuits:
    • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
    • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk until just combined.
    • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into rounds or squares.
    • Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden.
  2. Prepare the Sausage Gravy:
    • In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
    • Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
    • Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Assemble the Pie:
    • In a pie dish, layer half of the baked biscuits on the bottom.
    • Pour half of the sausage gravy over the biscuits.
    • Add the remaining biscuits and top with the rest of the gravy.
  4. Bake:
    • Return to the oven for about 15-20 minutes until heated through.
