  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup caramel bits (or 12 soft caramels, chopped)
  • Flaky sea salt, for topping

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
  4. Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt just until the dough comes together and no dry spots remain.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and caramel bits.
  6. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. While the cookies are still hot, sprinkle each one with a pinch of flaky sea salt.
  9. Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Cookies will continue to set as they cool.
