- ¾ cup white sugar
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda

- 1½ cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup caramel bits (or 12 soft caramels, chopped)

- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
- Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt just until the dough comes together and no dry spots remain.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and caramel bits.
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- While the cookies are still hot, sprinkle each one with a pinch of flaky sea salt.
- Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Cookies will continue to set as they cool.
