Ingredients:
4 beef hot dog sausages
4 hot dog buns
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
4 tablespoons yellow mustard (or your preferred mustard)
1/4 cup ketchup (optional, for a slightly tangy version)
1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional, for a smoky flavor)
Instructions:
Prepare the Onion Relish:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5 minutes until they start to soften.
Sprinkle the brown sugar over the onions and stir to coat. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the onions become caramelized and golden.
Add the apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir well and let it cook for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat. Set aside.
Cook the Hot Dogs:
Grill or pan-fry the hot dog sausages over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until they’re heated through and have nice grill marks (or a good char if frying).
Assemble the Hot Dogs:
Toast the buns lightly on the grill or in a pan for a minute to warm them.
Place a cooked hot dog sausage in each bun.
Spoon the caramelized onion relish generously on top of each hot dog.
Drizzle with mustard (and ketchup, if desired) and sprinkle with paprika for added flavor.
